Peter Crawley Identity
Business cards designed by Howard Wakefield and stitched by Peter Crawley
With Peter Crawley's increasing popularity combined with his pieces now be sold at Liberty, he decided to contact us to look at his identity. Being admirers of his work, having recently written about him in our blog, we were delighted to help. We felt his logo needed to communicate not only his craftsmanship, but convey his contemporary interpretation of a traditional medium.
After considering numerous fonts, we decided that Meta Serif italic displayed similar qualities. On first glance, this contemporary serif simply has an air of luxury, but on closer inspection the analogy for Peter Crawley increases - the level of hand-crafted detail is phenomenal and we felt it was this quality and detail that embodied Peter's work. Something that has a traditional premise, reinterpreted in a contemporary way, coupled with a high level of detail - descriptions of both Meta Serif and Peter Crawley.
Meta Serif italic as a logo supported by Meta Roman for all communications provides two elements that can be successfully combined yet remain distinct. Keeping all communications in a simple monochromatic palette supports the work which is consolidated by solid typographic foundations.
